What is C2 English?

Mastery: English used with ease, precision and subtle shades of meaning.

At C2, a learner can usually…

  • Read and listen to almost anything, from novels to academic papers to fast native speech, without strain.
  • Pull together ideas from several sources and present them as one clear, well-ordered account.
  • Choose exactly the right word to convey tone, irony or emphasis.
  • Produce polished writing whose style suits the reader, from a formal report to a personal essay.

These descriptions are our own summary of the CEFR, written for families. They are not official exam wording.
