About the school
With more than 750 years of history, Abingdon School combines a long tradition with a modern approach to learning, on about 35 acres in the heart of Abingdon.
It is known for strong academic results, with many pupils going on to Russell Group universities, Oxford, Cambridge and leading London universities. Boarding starts at 13 (Year 9), with full and weekly options across three boarding houses.
Abingdon is becoming co-educational: from September 2026 girls join Year 7 and Year 12, from September 2028 Year 9, and the school plans to be fully co-educational from September 2030.
Entry is selective, with assessments in English, Mathematics and Reasoning, an interview and a reference from the current school. International students may be able to sit the assessments at approved centres.
